U.S. Data Center Project Seeks a Chinese Manufacturing Partner for a Repeatable 5 MW Liquid Cooling Piping Package

A real U.S. project inquiry shows how AI data center cooling procurement is moving beyond individual pipes and fittings toward complete, factory-fabricated, tested, traceable liquid cooling piping assemblies.

A real U.S. data center project team recently approached China Super Tech to evaluate whether a Chinese supplier could support the manufacturing of standardized stainless steel liquid cooling piping assemblies for a long-term multi-site program.

This is not a request for standard stainless steel pipe alone. The customer is looking for a manufacturing partner that can receive approved engineering documents, fabricate complete piping assemblies, complete factory inspection and testing, identify every component, prepare the required quality documentation, and package the finished assemblies for export to the United States.

The initial target is a repeatable 5 MW liquid cooling piping package that can be manufactured and verified at the factory before being shipped to U.S. project sites for installation.

The important procurement question is no longer simply:

"Can you supply 316L liquid cooling pipe?"

It is:

"Can you turn our approved engineering documents into a complete, tested, traceable and repeatable piping package?"

Why 5 MW Liquid Cooling Packages Are Becoming a Procurement Issue

AI and high-performance computing are pushing data center power and cooling infrastructure toward larger and denser deployments. At the same time, operators are looking for ways to reduce field installation work and improve schedule predictability.

In January 2026, Vertiv announced new MegaMod HDX configurations with capacity up to 10 MW and support for rack densities from 50 kW to more than 100 kW per rack. The solution uses prefabricated infrastructure to accelerate deployment of high-density AI and HPC environments.

In May 2026, LiquidStack, a Trane Technologies company, announced commercial availability of its GigaModular CDU platform with modular capacity scaling up to 14 MW. The platform is designed around multi-MW modular cooling infrastructure and faster deployment.

These developments point to a broader shift in data center construction: more cooling capacity is being organized into modular, repeatable and factory-prepared systems.

Real U.S. Customer Case: What the Project Team Is Actually Looking For

The U.S. project team provided a detailed qualification and sourcing requirement for standardized stainless steel liquid cooling piping assemblies.

The customer's engineering partner will remain responsible for the overall cooling system design and design standards. The manufacturing partner is expected to work from approved engineering documentation and convert that information into production-ready piping assemblies.

This distinction is important. The supplier is not being asked to redesign the cooling system. Instead, the supplier must demonstrate that it can accurately manufacture what has already been engineered.

The Difference Between a Pipe Supplier and a Piping Assembly Partner

For a multi-site data center program, buying individual pipes is only one part of the procurement process. The bigger issue is whether the supplier can maintain dimensional, welding, testing and documentation consistency from one production batch to the next.

Procurement Requirement Standard Pipe Supplier China Super Tech Approach
Approved engineering drawings Usually product-focused Drawing-based production review and fabrication
Prefabricated assemblies Limited Bent tubes, manifolds and pre-assembled cooling components
Welding control Depends on supplier Controlled welding processes with ISO 3834-based procedures
Leak / pressure testing May require separate arrangements Testing integrated into the quality process according to project requirements
Material traceability Depends on order requirements Material and production documentation can be organized by batch/project
Export-ready delivery Product shipment Identification, protection and export packaging for project delivery

From Approved Drawings to a Factory-Tested Piping Package

For the U.S. project requirement, the manufacturing process can be understood as a controlled chain rather than a simple pipe purchase.

Traceability Matters When the Same Package Must Be Repeated Across Multiple Sites

One of the most important points in the U.S. customer's requirement is repeatability. A supplier may be able to produce one successful prototype, but a multi-site data center program requires the same approved design to remain consistent across repeated production runs.

That means traceability should not stop at the material certificate. The production record needs to connect the engineering drawing with the physical assembly and its inspection documentation.

Drawing → BOM → Material → Fabrication → Welding → Inspection → Testing → Identification → Packaging

For this reason, the customer's request for individual component identification or laser marking is not simply a labeling requirement. It is part of the project's quality and installation control system.

Factory Inspection and Testing Are Part of the Product

For a prefabricated liquid cooling piping package, the value of factory production is not only that the components are made off-site. The key advantage is that more quality checks can be completed before the assemblies reach the project site.

  • Incoming material verification and grade control
  • Dimensional inspection
  • Weld inspection according to project requirements
  • Internal surface verification where specified
  • Leak testing
  • Hydrostatic / pressure testing according to approved project specifications
  • Cleaning, flushing or passivation where applicable
  • Material certificates and QA documentation
  • Component identification and marking
  • Final inspection before export packaging
Important:

Test pressure, NDE methods, acceptance criteria and documentation requirements should always follow the approved project specification and applicable engineering standards. The supplier should not substitute its own test criteria for the customer's approved requirements.

What the U.S. Customer Wants to Build

The customer's objective is to establish a repeatable manufacturing model rather than purchase a one-time batch of loose pipe.

Target: Repeatable 5 MW Liquid Cooling Piping Package
Engineering

Customer's engineering partner provides the approved P&ID, BIM/isometric drawings, pipe schedules and technical specifications.

Manufacturing

China-based supplier fabricates the specified piping assemblies, headers, branches, manifolds, valves, fittings and related components.

Quality

Welding inspection, NDE where required, pressure/leak testing, material traceability and QA documentation are completed before shipment.

Identification

Individual components are identified according to the customer's marking and traceability requirements.

Delivery

Completed piping packages are export packaged and shipped to U.S. project sites for final installation and integration.

Why Production Capacity Matters for a Multi-Site Program

A long-term data center program creates a different procurement challenge from a one-time custom order. The supplier needs enough production capacity to support repeated releases while maintaining the same approved specifications and quality requirements.

What Buyers Should Confirm Before Qualifying a Liquid Cooling Piping Supplier

The U.S. customer inquiry also highlights a practical supplier qualification checklist for future liquid cooling infrastructure projects.

1. Can the supplier manufacture directly from approved drawings?

The supplier should be able to review P&IDs, BIM/isometric drawings, BOMs, pipe schedules and technical specifications before production.

2. Can the supplier provide complete assemblies rather than loose pipe?

Confirm capability for pipe spools, headers, branches, manifolds, fittings, valves and other specified assemblies.

3. How is welding quality controlled?

Ask for welding procedures, applicable qualifications, inspection methods and records required by the project.

4. What testing is completed before shipment?

Confirm leak testing, pressure testing, NDE and acceptance criteria according to the approved project specification.

5. Can every assembly be traced back to its material and drawing?

Material certificates, production records, inspection reports and component identification should form a connected traceability chain.

6. Can the supplier support repeated production releases?

For multi-site programs, production capacity and batch-to-batch consistency are as important as prototype capability.

Lead Time: Why Drawing Approval Should Come First

For customized liquid cooling assemblies, production timing should be calculated from drawing approval rather than from the first RFQ email. Engineering review, material confirmation, prototype approval and production release all affect the final delivery schedule.

Standard liquid cooling tubes: approximately 7–15 working days depending on specification and order conditions.
Custom bent tubes / manifolds: typically around 3–4 weeks after drawing approval for more complex configurations.
Custom assemblies: final schedule should be confirmed after engineering review, prototype requirements and production quantity are established.

What This Real U.S. Project Tells Us About the Next Stage of Liquid Cooling Procurement

The significance of this U.S. customer inquiry is not simply the requested material or the 5 MW target. It shows how data center liquid cooling procurement is becoming more integrated with industrial fabrication and project delivery.

The customer already has an engineering partner and defined design documentation. What is needed next is a manufacturing partner capable of converting those documents into consistent physical assemblies.

For the supplier, that means the ability to manage much more than tubing: material control, fabrication, welding, assembly, inspection, testing, identification, documentation and export packaging all become part of the deliverable.

As AI data centers continue moving toward larger cooling capacities and modular deployment models, this type of factory-based piping package is likely to become increasingly important for projects where installation speed, repeatability and quality control matter.

For China Super Tech, the opportunity is clear:

move beyond supplying individual stainless steel pipes and support customers that need complete liquid cooling piping components and assemblies manufactured from approved engineering documents.
