How Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Steel Liquid Cooling Tubes Ensure Long-Term Reliability in Modern Data Centers

The reliability of the liquid cooling system in data centers largely depends on the corrosion resistance of the pipeline materials. As the power of a single cabinet exceeds 30kW, the popularity of liquid cooling technology has rapidly increased. However, problems such as leakage and flow attenuation caused by pipeline corrosion account for 32% of the failures of the liquid cooling system. Corrosion is mainly driven by three factors: first, pitting corrosion caused by chloride ions in the cooling fluid (such as those from air infiltration in coastal areas or impurities in water replenishment); second, uniform corrosion caused by organic acids produced by microbial metabolism; and third, electrochemical corrosion formed by the contact between copper joints and steel pipelines. Therefore, the liquid cooling pipes must meet strict requirements: the ability to resist chloride ion corrosion should be ≥ 500 ppm; through GB/T 4334-2020 intergranular corrosion testing, the inner wall roughness Ra should be ≤ 0.8 μm to reduce fluid stagnation.
In response to these requirements, the 316 stainless steel liquid cooling tubes produced by China Super Tech Co., Ltd. have an anti-stress corrosion equivalent value (PREN) of 34.5, which is significantly higher than 19.2 of 304 stainless steel, and are suitable for coastal high-humidity environments. In 2024, a supercomputer center in Singapore replaced its original 304 tubes with China Super Tech's 316 stainless steel liquid cooling tubes (specification Φ38×2mm) and after 18 months of operation, the inspection showed that there were no pitting corrosion pits on the inner wall and the wall thickness reduction was only 0.02mm. Meanwhile, other brands of 304 tubes used during the same period had already experienced 3 leaks.
China Super Tech's 304 stainless steel liquid cooling tubes (Cr18%-20%, Ni8%-10%) have been widely used in dry areas due to their cost advantage. In 2023, a cloud computing base in Inner Mongolia, China, deployed a liquid cooling system for 12,000 cabinets, all of which used China Super Tech's 304 stainless steel liquid cooling tubes (Φ25×1.5mm). As of June 2025, the system had accumulated a total operation time of over 17,000 hours, with no pipeline corrosion faults occurred, and the maintenance cost was reduced by 72% compared to the original carbon steel solution.

China Super Tech relies on a standing inventory of over 2,300 tons, covering 28 different specifications (with wall thickness ranging from 0.5mm to 6mm) from Φ12mm to Φ219mm. Standard products can be dispatched to major ports worldwide within 48 hours after placing an order, ensuring the rapid implementation of emergency projects. At the same time, the company has the capacity for flexible customization, supporting non-standard size processing (such as elliptical tubes, variable diameter tubes), surface treatment (electrolytic polishing to Ra0.4μm or passivation treatment), and special connection structures (such as prefabricated pipe sections with integrated flanges).
In 2024, a 316L liquid-cooled elbow assembly was customized for an underwater data center in Norway. It passed a 200-meter water pressure test (pressure 1.6MPa) in one go. Additionally, the company provides a full-process one-stop service, from the early stage of material selection (providing SGS test reports and corrosion simulation data) to the later stage of installation guidance (jointly completed by the engineering team to conduct pipeline flushing and air tightness tests), all of which are followed up by the engineering team. It has successfully served 57 data center projects worldwide, covering supercomputing centers, cloud computing bases, and edge computing nodes.
For data center operators, choosing liquid cooling pipes requires balancing performance, cost and delivery efficiency. China Super Tech combines large-scale inventory with customization capabilities to not only meet the demand for rapid supply but also solve technical problems in special scenarios. All products come with material certificates (MTC) and third-party test reports, strictly meeting the ASTM A312/A269 standards.
